John and Gladys Hart Memorial Organ Scholarship

In 1991, the daughters of the late John and Gladys Hart gave $5100 to establish a perpetual organ scholarship as a memorial to their parents. The Centre regularly holds fund-raising concerts to augment this scholarship fund, and welcomes charitable donations to it.

The award is $500 and one year's RCCO membership.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must reside on Vancouver Island or one of the surrounding islands.

The applicant must have keyboard proficiency of at least Grade 8 RCM, CC or equivalent.

Award Conditions

The scholarship is intended for organ lessons or for certification purposes (RCCO or nationally recognized music conservatory examinations). Any other use must be directly related to organ study and must be approved by the scholarship committee.

The scholarship must be used within the following calendar year.

Teachers selected to work with Scholarship recipients should be current RCCO members or hold appropriate professional qualifications.

The RCCO reserves the right to rescind an award if these conditions are not met, and to demand reimbursement to the RCCO Victoria Centre of funds paid out, less any portion paid or due for lessons already provided.

Application Process

Applicants shall complete a PDF questionnaire describing their musical background and career intentions, and submit it together with and a letter of support from their current teacher, if any, by e-mail to RCCO Victoria Centre's scholarship committee by October 15.

The teacher’s letter must include the teacher’s e-mail address, postal address, and telephone number. It may be submitted as a pdf file, an MS Word document, or a scanned copy of an original letter.

Selection and Award Process

The committee will consider all submissions received as of the submission deadline to identify suitable candidates. If multiple deserving candidates are identified, auditions may be held at the discretion of the committee. Candidates will receive 3 weeks notice of such auditions.

Applicants will be informed of the committee's decisions by November 15. Further communication with those selected will confirm the availability and willingness of their teacher.
